Through Volunteering YOU can make a difference

Through volunteering at IHS, you can make a significant difference in the lives of men, women and families with children who are homeless and have nowhere else to turn.

IHS began as a volunteer-run organization over 30 years ago. We enjoy a rich history of being a site for community service. Over the years the agency has grown to offer more than food and shelter. IHS currently provides permanent housing assistance, employment placing, intensive case management, and more.

IHS offers a variety of volunteer opportunities for both individuals and volunteer groups. From tutoring the children in our care, to preparing and serving daily meals, there are many ways volunteers have helped IHS. For instance, in July of 2008, PSI renovated Kokua Korner, IHS donation storage for guests. The result of the renovation more than doubled the amount of space IHS previously had for donations! We believe that everyone has unique skills that are valuable.

Volunteering is a rewarding, hands-on, team-building exercise for your family, military group, church, corporation or group of friends. Not only do you build your immediate relationships, you can make a tremendous difference in the community!

Without the support of volunteers, IHS would not be able to provide quality services to so many people every day of the year. Many volunteer groups find helping at the shelter so rewarding, they have been volunteering for years, committing to quarterly and even weekly shifts.

We welcome volunteers to both shelters, but you do need to schedule your groups volunteering ahead of time.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering. It is through the kokua of the community that we make a difference in the lives of Oahus citizens who are homeless.
