How Your Donation Helps IHS
Your donations make a tremendous difference in the lives of those who are turning to IHS for help.
As a vital part of Honolulu’s safety net for men, women, couples, and families experiencing homelessness, IHS continues to provide emergency shelter 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, as well as homeless prevention and rapid re-housing services. Last year, IHS served over 4,000 individuals – helping prevent homelessness for close to 450 households and assisting 665 households (1,280 individuals) move from homelessness into stable housing. In addition, we served an average of 650 hot meals a day, ensured that 100% of our keiki remained in school, and provided a safe place for them to do their homework each day.
In the face of today’s economic uncertainty, we are committed to continuing to shelter, house, and care for as many individuals and families that are in need. However, we need your help now more than ever.

IHS consistently spends $.86 of every dollar directly on programs that serve our clients and guests. The other $.14 supports basic administrative costs necessary to operate our array of programs. You can see by the chart below that currently about 60% of our funding comes from the government. This will be difficult to maintain given the economic challenges facing our economy. We must depend on our community’s support more than ever as we continue to provide much needed programs and services to those who are homeless or on the verge of homelessness.
