Overview

You can make a significant difference in the lives of men, women, and families with children who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by volunteering at IHS.

At IHS, we offer a variety of volunteer opportunities for both individuals and volunteer groups. From tutoring the children that are in our care to preparing and serving daily meals, there are many ways to help IHS.  As an example, in July of 2008, the PSI team renovated Kokua Korner, IHS’ no-cost thrift shop for guests.  The result of the renovation more than doubled the amount of space IHS previously had for donations!  Another team assembled by D.R. Horton built a file storage room in a few days and a Coast Guard team laid down a new floor for an office in a day.  A team from Hawaiian Electric Company comes in regularly to help serve meals, while Harris United Methodist Church makes soup each and every week to serve at IHS for dinner.

We believe that everyone has unique skills that are valuable and we welcome the challenge to find you a project that will match yours. Volunteering at IHS can be a rewarding, hands-on, team-building exercise for your family, military group, church, corporation or group of friends. Not only will you strengthen relationships — you will also make a tremendous contribution to the local community!

Without the support of volunteers, IHS would not be able to provide as many quality services to so many people every day of the year. Many volunteer groups find helping at the shelter so rewarding that they continue to volunteer for years, committing to quarterly, monthly, or even weekly duty.  Please help us by calling ahead of time sufficiently to schedule and plan your group’s volunteer effort.
